One person died and 11 others sustained injuries in a shooting at a house party in western North Carolina early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at 12:45 AM on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View community, approximately 57 miles northwest of Charlotte.
Sheriff’s deputies and Hickory police officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the shooting. The party attracted teenagers and people in their 20s and older, with eyewitnesses reporting up to 100 attendees from nearby high schools.

Authorities identified the deceased victim as Shawn Patrick Hood, 58. One person remained in critical condition at a Charlotte hospital, while ten others were hospitalised in serious condition.
Some victims received treatment at local hospitals, with several already released by Sunday afternoon.
Investigation Reveals Complex Crime Scene Spanning Multiple Properties
A preliminary investigation determined multiple shooters used more than one weapon, including long guns. The crime scene spans several separate properties covering more than two acres, complicating the investigation process.
Sheriff’s Maj Aaron Turk explained the challenges investigators face tracking down witnesses. Party attendees scattered when shots erupted, with many ducking for cover and running toward safety.
Since most attendees were not local residents, authorities struggled to locate potential witnesses who had already left the area.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Hickory Police Department, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and Federal Bureau of Investigation are collaborating on the case. No arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon.
Prior Noise Complaint Unrelated to Fatal Shooting
Deputies had responded to a noise complaint at the same address around 11 PM Saturday. Officers addressed the complaint with residents, had them turn down the music, and left shortly after.
The shooting occurred over an hour later.

Maj Turk confirmed no connection exists between the earlier noise complaint and the fatal shooting. Investigators are examining potential motives, including possible animosity between party attendees.
Authorities do not believe the shooting was random or poses a threat to the broader community. Sheriff Don Brown described such incidents as rare in the western North Carolina community but noted a concerning rise in violence involving younger people as both perpetrators and victims.
The sheriff’s office requests anyone with information about the shooting to contact them as the investigation continues.
