Many of us would like to get fit, but can’t drag ourselves to the gym.

Most of the time, it’s because we’re lazy. But gym memberships can also be really expensive.

And if you go to the cheaper ones, it’s like being in one big sweaty group hug with a hundred other people.

But, if you’re an NS pre-enlistee, things may soon change.

NS Pre-Enlistees To Get 1 Year Free Membership To SAFRA Gyms

Pre-enlistees for national service will now get free access to SAFRA gyms for one whole year!

So, there’s no reason not to look like Imran by the time you begin your national service.

This membership applies to all six EnergyOne gyms:

  • Jurong
  • Mount Faber
  • Punggol
  • Tampines
  • Toa Payoh
  • Yishun

According to The Straits Times, this is a joint initiative by SAFRA and Ministry of Defense (MINDEF), as part of the Pre-Enlistees Exercise Programme for National Service (Prep4NS).

Registration for the programme will begin next month.

This initiative is only applicable to those have registered for NS and are medically fit to serve the nation, of course.

However, this membership is only valid for off-peak hours. So if you want free access, you’ll have to go at these times:

  • Weekdays from 6.30am-5pm and 10.30pm-1am
  • Weekends from 6.30am-1pm and 8pm-1am.

This makes sense because if everyone visited the gym during peak hours, we’d have to go back to that big sweaty group hug we were so desperate to escape.

But why, you ask.

Preparation for IPPT

Senior Minister of State for Defence Mohamad Maliki Osman, who is also president of SAFRA, said that the programme was implemented to help pre-enlistees prepare for their Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT).

The IPPT can be really tough to pass, and national service is challenging enough without a written record of how fat you are.

So, this would be a good way to improve your fitness and prepare for your IPPT.

According to Dr Maliki, the gyms will also offer customised group sessions for pre-enlistees to work together and prepare for the test.

“We hope they can work out with their friends, improve their fitness level and, hopefully, enjoy the process”, he added.

Working out with friends will certainly help:

Eh, I cannot do it any more lah.

Why, you pussy ah?

You can always count on friends.

Savings

According to SAFRA, an off-peak access day pass membership costs $577.80 for nine months.

That means you’d be saving nearly $770 for the whole year!

This is a deal you don’t want to lose out on. Register soon, and get your soon-to-be-toned-butt to the gym!

You can register on SAFRA’s website next month.

And remember to post a picture of Imran on your wall for inspiration.
