The ‘black-hearted’ pineapples drew media attention after Taiwanese media personality Huang Weihan talked about the recent deluge of poor quality pineapples in a livestream on Tuesday (30 March).

He even shared images of the pineapples with darkened cores sent to him by followers in Singapore.
“Sad to see that the quality of pineapples exported to Singapore this year seems to be really much worse than previous years,” he wrote.
NTUC Takes Product Off Shelves, Has “Freshness Guarantee Policy’
In response to the online complaints, NTUC Fairprice has taken the product off its shelves, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
Some consumers even received refunds after lodging complaints with NTUC FairPrice.
A spokesman said that NTUC has a freshness guarantee policy that allows customers with receipts to return or replace substandard fresh products in the same supermarket.

The supermarket chain added that it’s working closely with the supplier to review and investigate the matter.
The spokesman added that NTUC Fairprice attaches great importance to food quality and safety issues and is committed to maintaining high levels of food safety.
