I’m not sure about you, but whenever I try to get a Grab (or Uber, back in the days when policemen wore shorts), price surge occurs as if on cue.
My luck is so good with private hire cars, I think I should be one; I might just get surges the moment I open my app, but let’s not talk about this since my boss might be reading this.
But if you’re one who often frown at price surge only during a rainy day, because you’re just like most people who only kena price surge during peak hours or rainy periods, then you must be thinking whether there’s an insurance policy for this.
I mean, I don’t blame you for being crazy enough to even entertain that thought, but—
Wait a moment.
Is there really an insurance policy for rainy day? Is it by some dubious company trying to scam the last cent out from my already-empty wallet? Or is it April now and I’ve time-travelled to Oct—
Oh. It’s by NTUC Income. Okay, can, can, can X 8, sign me up.
Droplet, The Policy That Covers You When It Rains
(See the pun in the header? Nevermind, let’s move on)
Say you’ve got a date with Taylor Swift next Tuesday (30 October 2018). You can’t take the bus in your tuxedo and a bouquet of flowers. Your house is so ulu that no taxi would pass by it. And most importantly, you need transport to her hotel, and you shouldn’t be the one who’s wet.
But hey: you check the weather forecast, and ta-da: there’s a possibility of a rain.
You’d have to Grab there. But you’re not willing to fork out that extra amount for price surge because you’re as stingy as my boss.
So what do you do?
You go to Droplet and buy a “rain coverage” for that day. And since the minimum coverage is two days, and you most likely would have a second date with Ms Swift on the next day as well, you pay $5.50 for the coverage.
If it rains that day and there’s a price surge, you just take the Grab as per usual, then forward the receipt to them. You can claim up to 60% of the trip fare to a maximum of $50 a day.
And the best part? You can take more than a ride: say, you need to bring Ms Swift to Newton Hawker Centre to makan satay because she’s a fan of Crazy Poor Asians. You took a trip to her hotel, a trip to Newton and a trip back to the hotel, and all trips are surged because heaven is touched that you finally found a girl. And guess what? You can claim up to $50 for all the trips (up to 60% per trip)!
Pretty sure even Taylor Swift would be impressed.
It’s Only for Grab Now
Taylor Swift might be confused when you said you wanted to Grab her (to somewhere), but please inform her that this is now only available for JustGrab and GrabCar. They are now looking to include more ride-hailing firms into their policy.
You can check out them out here.
Not sure about you, but I feel like covering myself every week: after all…
…one week’s coverage is about the price of a trip.
Not bad if you’re a regular Grabber. Grabbist. Grabby. Whatever regular Grab rider is called lah.
