Nurse Sentenced to 12 Weeks Jail For Secretly Filming Colleagues Changing

Yet another toilet voyeur incident?

Monica B- oh, this time it took place in an unnamed hospital.

But just in case you’re suddenly scared about admitting to the hospital because your nurses might spy on you for research purposes, this took place in staff unisex toilets.

This time, it’s a 27-year-old male nurse peeking in on at least eight of his female colleagues. You would have thought with that many victims, his modus operandi would have been quite sophisticated, but it’s actually just slipping a Samsung S7 under the cubicle dividers.

Not going to lie, I thought this was a female peeping on female incident at first.

Of the things he took, there were his colleagues changing and peeing. He only got caught when taking a video of a 24-year-old colleague he knew for at least 2 years.

Because it was a unisex toilet, they went into the bathroom together and went inside adjacent cubicles. This happened about 3.45 p.m. at the hospital’s emergency department.

As she was changing out of her scrubs and putting on her shoes, she noticed the phone. At this point, the 27-year-old peeper shouted “Oh shit!” and slipped his hand back.

She went to the police when he went back to work later.

The video? He deleted it after watching it.

His phone was later confiscated and was found to contain photos of his colleagues in the bathroom.

Girlfriend forgave him for peeping

The prosecution asked for a 14-week sentence, though his defence asked for a 6-week sentence instead, saying that it wasn’t a sophisticated crime and there’s no high degree of planning.

His defence lawyer also added that he was productive and a contributing member of society by working part-time as a swimming coach, a nurse and a surveyor in the construction business after he was terminated from service (my assumption is that he was fired).

Other things said is that he is “very young”, and the actions “completely out of character”, which isn’t much convincing considering there’s not 1, but 8 victims.

His girlfriend also forgave him for all this and intends to get married.

Not convinced about the defence, the judge sentenced him to 12 weeks, and confiscated his phone.

Why Unisex toilets?

With unisex toilets, it almost seemed too easy for voyeur incidents to happen. I started to wonder why staff toilets are unisex there. I’m wasn’t able to find concrete evidence, so I started speculating a little.

Last I checked of the Singapore Nursing Board’s annual reports, nursing still remains a largely female-dominated profession, since only about 10%~15% are males.

In which case, the decision of unisex toilets might be a money thing where if they don’t have enough male nurses, it doesn’t make sense to make a male staff toilet.

Of course, all speculation and I don’t know what it actually is like, or what hospital staff toilets require that unisex toilets might make more sense.
