When you visit a library, you’re expecting to see a large collection of books, old people nodding off in comfy seats, and students pretending to be studying but scrolling through TikTok instead.

What you rarely see, is a grown man playing with himself in front of you.

That is, unless you’re in an NUS library, of course.

Former NUS Student, Who Exposed Himself in NUS Library, On the Run

The authorities are on the hunt for a 28-year-old man who exposed his private parts and sexually stimulated himself in front of a woman at the science library of the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 10 April last year.

According to The Straits TimesXiong Jiawei was a student at NUS when he allegedly committed the offence.

Xiong was charged last year with insulting a woman’s modesty and faced a year in jail as well as a fine if convicted.

The charge was later reduced to that of committing an obscene act in public, which carries a much lighter sentence of 3 months’ jail and a fine.

Instead of owning up to his mistakes, however, the 28-year-old has taken off and is now on the run.

On 26 Oct this year, a warrant for his arrest was issued.

According to his former lawyer who spoke to TODAYonline, the Singapore PR has gone back to his home country, China, and has no intention of returning to Singapore to face the music.

What Happened

Last year, on 10 April at about 6.20pm, Xiong had gone to the Science Library in NUS.

But instead of cracking open a book or studying, Xiong has another, more repulsive activity in mind.

For reasons known only to Xiong, he unzipped his pants and revealed his dangling appendage to a woman in the library, and started to masturbate in front of her.

It’s unknown what happened after that, but the 28-year-old was soon caught for his misdeeds.

Suspended for 2 Semesters

As with any case of sexual harassment at NUS, a Board of Discipline looked into the matter imposed disciplinary sanctions.

In an earlier statement, a university spokesman, who must be the busiest PR person in the world, said: “We conducted an internal investigation into the incident and offered pastoral care to the affected students.”

We’re not sure why the plural was used, but let’s just hope it was an error.

As for Xiong, the university suspended him for two semesters and imposed a mandatory assessment by a psychiatrist, as well as mandatory counselling.

“The university takes a serious view of any misconduct by our students,” NUS said.

Another review of the matter has been scheduled for 7 June next year.

Hopefully the 28-year-old will be caught by then, before he pleasures himself in other libraries.
