You’ve heard of people infusing local flavours into western concepts.
Like McDonald’s Nasi Lemak Burger
And Burger King’s Hainanese Chicken Rice Burger
But how about infusing local flavour into a local cuisine?
Believe it or not, that’s what Old Chang Kee is doing for Singaporeans this new year.
Introducing The Hainanese Chicken Rice Curry Puff
Yes, you’ve heard that right.
Hainanese chicken rice. In a puff pastry.
Fragrant Hainanese chicken rice is stuffed into Old Chang Kee’s signature puff pastry together with steamed boneless chicken chunks, together with coriander leaves, garlic and shallots.
Then completed with a dash of Old Chang Kee Hainanese Chili sauce and dark soy sauce.
The golden-crusted Hainanese Chicken Rice O will be available at all outlets from 6 Jan to 29 Feb 2019.
But Wait Till You Hear What They’re Selling For CNY Cookies
Green pea cookies and peanut cookies are so yesterday.
If you’re looking to usher in the Chinese New Year on 2019, Old Chang Kee’s offering edgier flavours for their CNY cookies this year.
Curry Cookie
If you love Old Chang Kee’s signature Curry O (read: curry puff), then this cookie is right up your alley.
According to what Old Chang Kee says, the savoury Curry cookie is firm yet delicate. Strong in flavours yet melts in your mouth almost immediately.
And as it melts, you’ll taste the candlenut, galangal, lemongrass, garlic, shallots and shredded curry leaves infused within the cookie.
Curry’s not your cup of spice?
That’s okay because they’ve got another option for you.
Nasi Lemak Cookie
Look at these red-hot cookies topped with crispy ikan bilis fried to perfection and peanuts.
When you bite into one, you’ll get the kick of dried chillies, assam, belachan and, of course, shrimp paste.
A jar of cookies will set you back by $16.80 and they’re available at 38 selected Curry Times and Old Chang Kee outlets from 6 Jan to 28 Feb 2019.
Old Chang Kee Chinese New Year Bazaar
Looking for somewhere to explore this weekend?
How about paying a visit to Old Chang Kee HQ? They’re holding a Chinese New Year Street Fair from 4 Jan to 1 Feb 2019.
Expect nostalgic 1960s settings and bazaar games like Ring Toss or Fishing Game every Saturday and Sunday. Basically, games that your grandparents and parents used to play when Netflix and Chill wasn’t an option.
You can also explore the various wares on display, ranging from Old Chang Kee’s iconic snacks, sauces or eat Curry Times’ Signature Dry Laksa Goreng and Laksa.
Spend $15 at this event (maximum of 2 receipts can be combined) and you’ll be able to win Old Chang Kee’s red packets.
There’s even an old coffee shop photo wall for your #OOTDs.
