A lot of us remember the good old days of Tanjong Pagar Railway. Back then, besides taking a bus or driving all the way into Malaysia, you could opt to take a train. Even now, the architecture of the building never fails to amaze locals and tourists alike, not to mention the really delicious food available at the little hawker stores littered in and around the station. Possibly the best mamak food ever!
With the advent of time, technology took over and as the station officially ended its operations a few years ago, hipster communities have taken an unquenchable interest in this timeless establishment.
One of these organizations is The Local People (or TLP in short), the head honchos of the upcoming 90s-themed Art Market happening on 25 March 2016 from 3pm to 9pm. You can already be sure that this is going to be one heck of an Instagrammable and FaceBook-able event all you photography aficionados won’t want to miss.
In collaboration with the Singapore Land Authority (not very exciting), and sponsors such as Canon (yes getting excited), visitors can expect huge projectors for the movie screening and art installations for the Hall and Platform area. When was the last time any of us caught a movie outdoors?
All their vendor booths will also be sheltered under the platforms with fluorescent lighting and live music performances will take place within cement boxes for maximum reverb. Fluorescent lights! You can expect a lot of 10-second tastefully edited videos going up onto Instagram in a matter of minutes!
And it’s not just going to be any other old art event you see all over Singapore nowadays. The Local People also decided to adopt a charity called Food From The Heart and they are encouraging people to bring along food items (as listed on their FaceBook event page), to contribute that little bit to creating a better life for the less fortunate. That’s going to make some good, high “likes” worthy shots too ain’t it?
You can already expect the throngs of people who are going to be there. Snap pictures of young hipsters in contrast with the relics in the background, them checking out old school trinkets and all the lights around that remind us of those days when we were younger and life was so much simpler.
So who’s excited? It’s going to be an event of so much nostalgia and discovery for people of all ages.
