“This year’s funpack sucks.” “Who will even bring this out of their house?”
If you’ve found yourself saying any of these sentences in the past, the NDP 2016 funpack might be the one to change your minds.
This year’s funpack is a translucent bag (a first since the funpacks were introduced in 1991) and comes in red and white. It stands at 23cm by 33cm by 18cm – just slightly bigger than A4-size.
Items in the funpack have gotten more high-tech as well – among those is an LED wristband that can be wirelessly synchronised with the show’s lights and sounds. The wristband can emit lights, which will allow spectators to become a part of the massive visual displays, making the parade more “interactive”.
Another technology-related item is a souvenir magazine with digital content. Using the NDPeeps App, by focusing their mobile devices on a picture of the National Stadium in the magazine, readers will be able to view a 3D time lapse video of the stadium’s evolution on their phones.
In addition, the funpack will come with the standard handheld Singapore flag, flip fan, scarf and luggage tag. It will also contain an assortment of food and drinks such as roasted peanuts, Hello Panda biscuits, Nin Jiom herbal candy and bottled NEWater.
Some people have said that this year’s funpack resembles a Kanken, which makes it more likely for it to be reused even after the parade. Others have scoffed at the idea of it being translucent, remarking that the organisers are “trying too hard and failing”. What do you guys think?
