Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, people have flouted coronavirus rules in a number of ways.
Some refuse to wear masks and proclaim they’re sovereigns, some breach their stay-home notice just to eat Bak Kut Teh, while others try to gain entry into eateries even though they’re unvaccinated.
Ultimately, the point of all these rules is to protect residents here from contracting and spreading the coronavirus.
This woman was clearly aware of this when she was asked to isolate, which is why she came up with a scheme to go out without getting caught.
Unfortunately for her, the plan failed.
Woman Who’s Supposed to Isolate Arrested for Using Family Member’s TraceTogether Token to Go Out
Earlier this year, the woman, a 34-year-old, had undergone a polymerase chain reaction test after she had come into contact with a COVID-19 patient.
She was then instructed by the authorities to self-isolate and wait for her result.
Instead of doing that, she headed outside and used a family member’s TraceTogether token to enter various premises.
She may have gotten away with her misdeeds were it not for a police report lodged on 3 Sept by an unknown party. The complainant accused the woman of using a TraceTogether token belonging to her family member on three separate occasions to enter several places between 30 April and 2 May.
The 34-year-old is now facing jail time, owing to the report.
She was arrested for her suspected involvement in cheating by personation and will be charged in court tomorrow (12 Nov).
Those convicted of cheating by impersonation face a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both.
NSF Jailed For Going Out While Waiting For COVID-19 Test Results; Later Tested Positive
Those wondering why stay-home notices and MCs are so strict need only go through the case of Fathullah Abdul Rahman to understand.
Last month, the NSF was sentenced to 18 weeks’ jail after pleading guilty to two charges of leaving home while under the conditions of a medical certificate.
After seeking medical attention for a sore throat, Fathullah was given an MC and tested for COVID-19. He was instructed to stay at home until he received a negative test result.
Despite this, Fathullah left his house that very morning to meet a friend at Bedok MRT Station. His test came back negative, but his symptoms persisted, so he once again sought medical attention.
Once again he was issued an MC and told to stay at home until he received a negative test result. But he chose to visit a skate park and Bugis Junction instead.
Two days later, he found out he had tested positive for COVID-19.
This is why those who are suspected of carrying the virus are not allowed to leave their homes; the last thing we need is more cases on our hands.
