On 8 November, at around 12pm, an accident involving an over-height lorry caused traffic delays near the Cairnhill Circle entrance to the Central Expressway (CTE) tunnel towards Seletar Expressway (SLE).
A yellow lorry, with a boom that exceeded the tunnel’s 4.5-metre height limit, entered the CTE tunnel and damaged parts of the ceiling, leaving exposed wires and debris hanging overhead.
Footage of how it happened has been uploaded online:
Video footage from inside the tunnel also showed the lorry stationary in the left lane with hazard lights on, while other vehicles cautiously passed by amid flickering lane guidance lights.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) confirmed that although the tunnel’s structural integrity remained intact, there was considerable damage to electrical and mechanical systems attached to the ceiling.
Following the incident, the Cairnhill Circle entrance to the CTE tunnel was immediately closed, with warnings issued to motorists through LTA’s traffic news account on X at 12.05pm. By 12.17pm, the slip road was confirmed closed, leading to major traffic congestion in the area.

Driver Arrested for Over-Height Vehicle Violation
The driver of the yellow lorry, a 55-year-old man, has been arrested for operating a heavy vehicle that exceeded the permitted height of 4.5 metres without the required police escort.
The driver’s boom had also hit a tree branch and the height restriction gantry before colliding with the tunnel ceiling. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
LTA’s guidelines prohibit vehicles over 4.5 metres from entering Singapore’s road tunnels, apart from the Sentosa Gateway Tunnel, where the limit is 3.5 metres.
