What comes to your mind when you hear the word Panasonic?
Probably televisions.
Batteries.
Maybe even household appliances.
But I bet none has ever associated K-pop, or in this case, M-pop with the brand before.
Brands are always looking for fun and innovative ways to make their customers remember them.
Sometimes, it backfires.
Companies Coming Out With New-Age Songs
Companies in Asia are leery of writing a new-age song for their brand.
I mean, just look at Hydroflux.
It got the company viral. Just not in a good way.
Firstly, she is way off tune. Secondly, almost all the words are pronounced separately at different rhythms. Thirdly, the lyrics? They are so random. no hate but all I think that this is cringey af.
But sometimes, the benefits outweigh the risks.
Panasonic Went Ahead With It Anyway
But Panasonic decided to take the plunge anyway.
And it went viral almost immediately.
Uploaded on 16 Jan 2019, it has since garnered over 1.4k shares and 219k views.
All for the right reasons.
And to be honest, we’re really not surprised.
I mean, they pretty much have the formula down.
Pretty girls? Checked.
Kpop-worthy dance moves? Checked.
They even dance in formation and popped out moves you’d never expect to see in a Panasonic advertisement.
And it’s something super-relatable to Singaporeans and Malaysians. In fact, anybody who has to do spring-cleaning at home will relate to it.
Plus, it doesn’t hurt that the tune’s catchy, the vocals and rap, great. And the MV, riveting enough to watch till the end.
Here, You Can Watch The Video For Yourself Below:
However, Not Everybody’s As Accepting Of The Video
There are some who felt the video wasn’t Asian enough.
There are some who felt the video was sexist.
But There Are Many Who Can Get Behind Panasonic’s Ad
Definitely not a Hydroflux.
And It’s Not Their First Time Doing Something Like This
Check out their previous advertisement for their aircon.
It features Harry Potter, plenty of sleight-of-hand, Thanos’ snap and Doctor Who.
Plus, it’s informative yet entertaining at the same time.
Yup, infinity of war references, ftw.
You know what? No point me blabbing on. You’ll have to see it to believe it.
Now brb while I go replay the Panasonic CNY song.
If you watch at least 10 minutes of brain rot content daily, you must know this:
