The man, PAP’s Ivan Lim Shaw Chuan, has spoken, and it’s not through a statement from his party or via a letter.

Instead, he has spoken to Chinese daily Zaobao, but rather than speaking in Chinese because it’s a Chinese newspaper, he spoke in English instead.

In it, he apologised to Singaporeans and hope that people will—oh, sorry, that happened in my dream.

In it, he continued to claim that the allegations against him are baseless, and think of his party instead of himself.

Here’s the video that might just get more views than a Nas Daily video:

And here’s the transcript of what he’s said in the 46-second video:

Okay, I think a lot of things have happened today. I released a press statement.

I will continue to state my position that the allegations are baseless.

But I also learn that I’m not alone. This election is very, very important. It’s a critical phase in our Singapore history.

I think the election should be objective on the issues that are at stake and not on a particular individual (pointing to himself).

And also going through, I think the party—I have consulted the party about my decision, and it is good for the focus to be brought back to the campaign which is, you know, at the greater issues at stake for our Singaporeans.

It’s unknown what allegations he is referring to, but according to his letter to PM Lee, “further allegations” have emerged after he released his first statement yesterday.

You know shit has hit the fan when your clarifications led to even more allegations.

And don’t worry; in the last election, it was reported that PAP had four reserve candidates lest they need to change the candidates. So Kurt Tay won’t be joining the PAP and be an MP in Jurong GRC.

So, what happened that led to this drama that you’d only see in House of Cards?

Allegations About his “Elitist” and “Condescending” Behaviour

Since he was thrust into the spotlight, people left right centre have been bashing him online for his behaviour towards others.

Earlier yesterday (27 June 2020), at about noon, he released a statement via his party to address some of the allegations.

Regarding the first allegation, whereby he was alleged to have been involved in some bribery case in Brazil, he said that is “completely baseless and untrue”.

The second allegation he addressed was how he had treated his NS men during ICT. He said, “As to the stories about the army incidents, people can have different perspectives of the same incident.”

He then moved on to the allegation about his work attitude in Keppel. Erm, not much new info is mentioned lah except that the “shipyard industry is a tough and exacting one.”

Interestingly enough, there’s an allegation about him not smiling at his neighbour. He responded, “Regarding the post about not smiling at my neighbour, I do not recall a specific incident. However, like many others who live in apartments, I know some neighbours better than others and interact with some more than others.”

What’s interesting is that in the statement, he had said that he is “determined to stay the course and to serve if I am elected.”

And of course, we all know he suddenly withdrew last night.
