Raeesah Khan is now the most trending candidate from the Workers’ Party, and it’s not for a good reason.

On 5 Jul, it was reported that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has received two police reports lodged against her.

Both are for comments that she has made online, the first back in 2018 on the City Harvest Church saga and the second, on May 2020.

And within days, many things happened.

A Public Apology

For one, Ms Raeesah Khan apologised for her insensitive remarks and said that her intention has never been to “cause any social division, but to raise awareness”.

It was also revealed (in the interview session) that Ms Khan will be continuing her candidacy for now.

You can watch the video below to see her apology as well as see what Workers’ Party Secretary-General Mr Pritam Singh has to say about the issue:

Hashtag #catsforraeesahkhan Trending

Shortly after, some netizens felt that a police report was uncalled for and took to social media to support her.

Other than the hashtag #IStandWithRaeesah which was trending, there was another hashtag created for her:

Probably because she has so many selfies with cats.

My colleague has it right when he said cats just make everything better.

Well, now, there’s been a new development.

PAP Responds to Raeesah Khan Saga; Says That It is a ‘Serious Issue’

On 6 Jul (today), PAP took to their blog to give their thoughts about the Raeesah Khan saga.

They said that the Workers’ Party should, in fairness to Sengkang and elsewhere, state its stand on her posts since she has admitted to them.

They also questioned why she is still “worthy of consideration as an MP”, pointing out that what she did is a ‘serious matter’ that goes against the “fundamentals that Singapore is built upon”.

They also demand, “in the interests of transparency”, that WP should make Ms Raeesah make public her other posts “which were previously public and review those too” to “assess her suitability” to be elected into parliament.

They ended off the post by throwing WP’s words back at them, telling them not to ask voters to “write it a blank cheque in Sengkang or anywhere else it contests”.

Well, balls fired. WP, your turn.

Not The First Time PAP Flamed WP Online

This isn’t the first time that someone from PAP used its official platform to fire shots at the Workers’ Party.

Previously, an MP’s article on the PAP blog caused a big hoo-ha just two weeks ago when it accuses Mr Pritam Singh of supporting a pro-Malaysia writer and poet in Singapore and wondered if Mr Singh is the same as well.

Lest you’ve forgotten, polling day will be on this Friday (10 July). So what happens if you didn’t vote? Would you be jailed? Would you be barred from buying bubble tea for the next five years? Watch this video and you’ll know the consequences:
