Although I’ve never brought up a child before, I am perfectly aware of the difficulty in teaching him/her the right values.
That’s what you learn from having younger (annoying) sibling(s).
I’ve seen my parents give up so many times on this impossible task.
In Thailand, there’s a mother who successfully taught her five-year-old son the importance of going to school.
The little boy disliked attending school, so she decided to entitle him to one day’s leave to do some ‘hands on’ activity.
The smart mother brought him to pick up rubbish along the roads, according to Apple Daily.
They walked 2.2km under the scorching sun and he picked up 2kg of plastic bottles.
Along the way, there were times when they walked the wrong way.
The tired boy was also on the brink of giving up.
But he was determined to sell the plastic bottles and carried on.
He asked for directions to the recycling centre and got back 2 Baht for his hard work.
That’s around SGD 0.085.
Which is…not a lot.
Anyways, moral of the story is that the boy eventually understood how blessed he is to be able to attend school.
Netizens praised this mother for her 2-in-1 education method.
One, the child experiences the importance of education and two, he becomes more resilience.
The little boy willingly goes to school now!
Score 1 for mom 🙂
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
