As a 23-year-old adult male, I’ve lived out most of my life witnessing some pretty unconventional names.
Batman Bin Suparman.
Tan Ah Kow.
Benedict Cumberbatch.
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot.
But just when I thought I’ve seen the world, my editor comes to my side and shakes up my perception of Earth. Once again.
Parents Named Their Boy ‘Google’ So He Can Grow Up to Help Others
According to Coconuts Jakarta, a couple in West Java, Indonesia, has made headlines in the region for giving their son a rather unconventional name:
Google.
According to reports, 31-year-old Andi Cahya Saputra and 27-year-old Ella Karina recently welcomed a baby boy on 30th November 2018, and opted to name him Google without any last name.
“His name is just Google. G-o-o-g-l-e, only one word,” the baby’s father said.
“I had Microsoft, iPhone, iOs, Windows, and many others. From religion, we considered the names of the prophets, and from the more usual names, we also considered Albar Dirgantara Putra. But when he was finally born, something in my heart told me the name Albar Dirgantara Putra wouldn’t suit [my son]. So, I decided to give him a technology-related name.”
Why Google? Why not Instagram? Or Youtube?
Apparently, the baby’s mother did not acknowledge Google’s name for the first three months after he was born and only said “baby boy” when people asked for his name. Reason?
Why not Instagram or Youtube?
“My wife and I quarrelled a lot over his name and she asked me why didn’t I choose Instagram or YouTube. I told her that Instagram was just a social media website while YouTube is just for sharing videos.”
In fact, the baby’s grandfather didn’t approve the unconventional name as well, telling Andi to at least give the child a last name during registration.
The baby’s father refused.
“I told my father, ‘Pak, Google has a great meaning, because I hope Google can help many people, becomes a useful person to others.’”
And it seems that the baby’s father has a great goal for his son as well.
“For Google, almost everyone uses it. If you want to check up on anything, you use Google for help, so I hope my son will be someone who helps other people.”
And it seems that time’s indeed a healing factor here, as the boy’s name soon started to grow on the rest of the family.
“I hope my son will be a leader who helps others,” Google’s mother said.
Well, we all do, we all do. Here’s hoping that Google will one day be a leader in the same vein as Barack Obama, rather than say…
A certain president in The Queen’s Corgi.
Oh, want to know more about the boy? Just Google Google.
