Man With Only PDL Crashed on PIE, Fled the Scene by Hitching A Ride Home

A man with only a PDL took his parents’ car without their consent and crashed it.

All we can say is: Bro, you had one job.

He fled the scene subsequently and hitched a ride home.

22-Year-Old With Only PDL Crashes Car and Flees

A 22-year-old man, Xiao Kaiyang (hanyu pinyin), was charged with four violations of the Road Traffic Act, one violation of the Gambling Control Act, and one violation of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act.

On Thursday (19 October), he pleaded guilty to four of these charges, with the remaining charges taken into consideration at the time of sentencing.

So, what exactly did Xiao do?

According to Shin Min Daily News, he drove his parents’ car with a provisional driving license (PDL) and crashed it.

For the non-drivers among us (or should we say, those who weren’t strong enough to tahan the BBDC instructor’s attitude), a PDL is a license that learner motorists hold while learning to drive.

If you’re driving with only a PDL, you must be supervised by a qualified driving instructor and display an “L” plate on both the front and rear of your vehicle.

Anyway, back to the current case—what Xiao did after crashing his parents’ car will make your jaw drop: he fled the scene and hitched a ride home.

Here’s how it happened.

22-Year-Old Drove Parents’ Car to Meet Girlfriend

On 21 January, Xiao took his parents’ car out for a drive.

Yeah… Of course, nothing would go wrong, even though he only has a PDL and took the car keys without his mother’s consent.

Xiao drove to his girlfriend’s residence at Block 650 Jurong West Street 61 and spent some time there. Around 5 am, he decided to drive back to his home at 3 Pasir Ris Drive.

Wah… Jurong West and Pasir Ris? The true Singaporean LDR.

While driving home on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) in the Changi direction, Xiao lost control of the car.

The car suddenly veered to the right and crashed into the railings by the expressway—this happened at 6:17 am.

The crash was so severe that airbags were deployed, and the car was left facing the opposite direction of traffic flow. The front of the vehicle was also severely damaged.

This was when Xiao decided to pull what some might believe qualifies as part of the “Top 10 Anime Mistakes” collection—he fled the scene and hitched a ride home.

It’s like a hit-and-run, except fortunately, no one was injured (including Xiao himself), and what was hit was the PIE railings.

Later, when members of the public discovered the wreckage left behind on the PIE, they reported it to the police.

And Xiao? He only informed his mother about the accident upon reaching home. He and his parents subsequently returned to the PIE accident site.

Well, that’s one way to do it.
