If you think only raw salmon has salmonella, think again, because the Singapore Food Agency has just issued a recall for peaches in Singapore for exactly that reason.

SFA announced on 25 Aug 2020 that they are issuing a recall for peaches that were packed by Prima Wawona or Wawona Packing Company.

Things To Look Out For:

If you have any peaches lying around in your home, check the packaging and see if your peaches have stickers with the following price look up numbers:

  • 4037
  • 4038
  • 4044
  • 4401
  • 94037
  • 94038
  • 94044
  • 94401

SFA acknowledges that not all of the peaches with the numbers mentioned above might be packed by Wawona Packing Company or Prima Wawona, but if you just want to be safe, you can contact the place you bought it from to check their origins.

That or just stick to some other fruits.

Recall Issued By The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

According to CNA, a food recall was issued on Saturday (22 Aug) by the FDA after a salmonella outbreak was linked to a US food packaging company, Prima Wawona.

The outbreak has made more than 60 people across nine states in the US unwell, and the packaging company has recalled its products.

Satoyu Trading, the company that imported the products into Singapore, was also tasked by SFA to recall the product.

For enquiries, customers can call Satoyu Trading at 9066 1290.

Salmonella Can Be Fatal To Selected Groups Of People

According to MedlinePlus, salmonella is the name of a group of bacteria and is found commonly in the US.

Symptoms of infection include fever, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, headaches, and possibly nausea, vomiting and a loss of appetite.

It usually occurs not just in salmon but also in raw poultry, eggs, beef and sometimes on unwashed fruits and vegetables.

The symptoms usually last four to seven days and most people get better without treatment.

However, people like the elderly, young children and people with chronic health problems are more vulnerable to it.

So make sure to wash your fruits properly before eating, and maybe just stay away from peaches for the time being.
