A Myanmar cook in her 40s was fatally stabbed at a Thai-style restaurant in Lorong Bukit Juru, Seberang Perai, Penang, following a dispute over food quality on the night of 12 Nov 2025.
The incident occurred at around 9pm when a group of customers, who had arrived at approximately 8:30pm, became dissatisfied with the meal served at the eatery.
The group was reportedly already intoxicated upon arrival and grew increasingly discontent with the dish’s quality. A heated argument erupted between the diners and the victim, who worked as a cook at the restaurant alongside her husband.
During the altercation, the cook and her husband, a Myanmar national in his late 40s, ordered the group to leave the premises.
Customer Returns Armed With Knife, Leaves Three Injured
One member of the group, a man in his 30s, contacted his brother before returning to the restaurant armed with a knife. He allegedly stabbed the cook to death at the scene.
The victim’s husband sustained injuries to his body during the attack. Another man, believed to be a friend of the suspect, was also stabbed in the incident.
Both injured men were rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment and remain under medical care. Health personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Police arrested three suspects near the crime scene shortly after the stabbing. The arrested individuals include the two brothers, both in their late 30s, and a third suspect, a 50-year-old man.
The third suspect appeared to be a transporter who attempted to help the two brothers escape. Police have issued a remand order against all three suspects.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail confirmed the incident and stated the suspect is believed to have been intoxicated during the altercation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
A conviction under Section 302 carries the death penalty or an imprisonment term ranging from 30 to 40 years. The victim’s body was sent to Hospital Seberang Jaya for a post-mortem examination.
