As if the whole ‘Is it because I Chinese’ saga hasn’t ended, private-hire vehicles (PHVs) have been blowing up in the social media recently.
What Happened
On 24 Feb 2019 (Sunday), an incident occurred, one of which left an innocent PHV driver scarred.
According to Shin Min Daily News, a driver had picked up a 27-year-old woman in Telok Kurau.
Giving her destination as Block 109 Commonwealth Crescent, the woman, reeking of alcohol, hobbled her way into the vehicle.
She Couldn’t Wake Up
According to Jack, a friend of the driver, he said: “Upon arriving, the driver tried waking the woman but she did not respond.
“Noticing an umbrella in his car, he used it to lightly tap the woman in hopes of waking her.
“However, she remained still even after 15 minutes.”
Further attempts to rouse the woman were futile.
“My friend was scared and thought she had died in his car,” added Jack.
At this point, the driver legitimately thought that she was dead, and thus tried to dial for help.
“He called the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.”
When paramedics arrived at the scene and successfully woke the woman up, there was no doubt that the PHV driver heaved a sigh of relief.
She returned to her unit safe and sound.
Trauma
Unfortunately for the driver, who then proceeded to call Jack, was so troubled that he could not rest the entire night.
While it had caused a lot of unnecessary hoo-hah, the driver did the right thing by not touching the woman directly, but using an umbrella instead, netizens point out.
The driver had taken the right decision to inform Police and medical help. All taxi or PHV drivers are registered with records of all movements.
Moral of the Story: Ladies, Don’t Blackout Alone in Public
While the lady might wake up and be embarrassed at the trouble she’s caused, she got off lucky.
After all, she gets to go home safe and sound.
There are many cases out there of drunk ladies being taken advantage of in their vulnerable state.
Like this lady who only managed to get away safely after a brave hotel employee got whacked on her behalf.
A 26-year-old employee working at a hotel in Geylang saw two men supporting an unconscious lady into the hotel lobby.
They had wanted to check into a room at the hotel.
Smelling something fishy (read: alcohol) in the air, he lied and said there wasn’t any room available.
Then, things escalated and he was hit in the head with a copper decorative lion.
The man was eventually arrested.
So enjoy the nightlife, let your hair down, but remember, while Singapore is a country with a low crime rate, it doesn’t mean it has no crime.
And no, it was not because she is Chinese.
