Our neighbouring country is dealing with a lot of changes. From the everlasting MCO to the political turmoil, Malaysians are keeping themselves busy during these tumultuous times.

In case you are unaware, let me simplify it for you: Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Mr Muhyiddin Yassin resigned.

That means there’s an open position that needs to be filled. After 114 MPs were summoned to the palace to confirm with the king about their nomination for the new PM, a decision was made. Mr Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the former Deputy Prime Minister, is Malaysia’s ninth Prime Minister.

With someone new in charge, there tends to be a celebration or a congratulatory message. This time, the message comes from our Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong.

PM Lee Called Ismail Sabri Yaakob to Congratulate Him for Becoming M’sia’s 9th Prime Minister

Our Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong picked up the phone and called Malaysia’s ninth prime minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to congratulate him for the position.

It’s like how you congratulate your friend for their new job but this time, it’s between two great leaders.

In the phone call, the leaders reaffirmed the longstanding, deep, and broad-ranging ties between the two countries.

They are looking forward to working together closely to confront the obstacles of the pandemic and flourish their bilateral relationship.

PM Lee believes that Malaysia will continue to thrive with Mr Ismail as the new Prime Minister due to his previous experience in public service and government.

Previously, Mr Ismail co-chaired the Singapore-Malaysia Special Working Committee on COVID-19 with Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean. They ensure that goods continue to move through the borders despite the pandemic.

Before the phone call ended, PM Lee invited Mr Ismail to visit our little red dot to discuss how they can take their friendship further. He also wants to work with him to expand both countries’ cooperation for mutual benefits.

Maybe they can create a travel corridor between Malaysia and Singapore, then we can finally get our cheap food.

Aside from the phone call, PM Lee also wrote him a congratulatory letter.

At the end of the call and letter, PM Lee and his wife, Ms Ho Ching, sent best wishes and continued good health for Mr Ismail and his wife.
