The pandemic hasn’t been easy on anyone, and we’re all in need of a little breather to rest and recharge once in a while—Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is no exception.
His office released a statement on Sunday (6 June) announcing that he will be on local leave for five days, starting today (7 June) until 11 June.
He will remain contactable, so no acting prime minister will be appointed during his break.
PM Lee Taking Leave Until 11 June; Will Be Staying Home & Trying Home Delivery Meals
Mr Lee shared in a Facebook post that he will be taking a short break and will be mostly staying at home during this period.
What will his self-care routine consist of, you may be wondering?
“Mostly staying home to catch up with reading, experiment with photo apps, and try home delivery meals,” according to his Facebook post.
Well, that sounds about as good a self-care routine as any. Though perhaps the only thing missing is binging an unlawful amount of Netflix shows, which we’ve all been guilty of at some point.
His Facebook post was accompanied by a snapshot he took at Thomson Nature Park last year of a monkey partially hidden amid thick foliage.
Thomson Nature Park is an important conservation area in which you can catch sightings of rare primates. An example is the Raffles’ banded langur, which is an endangered species.
PM Lee also mentioned that he is looking forward to going out again when COVID-19 restrictions are eased, just like the rest of us.
Currently, Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) restrictions are in place until 13 June, so please do continue to adhere to all safe distancing rules and regulations in the meantime.
PM on Local Leave in 2020
Previously, PM Lee had also gone on local leave for a longer period of time last year (17-31 December 2020). Similarly, there was also no acting PM appointed during that period as he remained contactable.
The Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Chang Li Lin had said back then that Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat would also be on leave on certain days while PM Lee was on leave.
During his local leave last year, Mr Lee said in a Facebook post that he would be “exploring our island and catching up on [his] reading”.
He also said that he would share with his followers on social media if he stumbled upon interesting sights during his explorations.
