You know what’s the jewel of the East?
It’s in your face you know.
Like really, jewel.
If you still have zilch clue as to what I’m referring to, I’m talking about Jewel Changi Airport.
It’s so darn cool, there’s even a Wikipedia page on it before it opens up this year.
Designed by Moshe Safdie of Marina Bay Sands fame, this 134,000 sqm mixed-use development complex will include a hotel, gardens and attractions, aviation facilities and 300 retail and dining facilities.
It was so darn 34°C hot-ly anticipated that almost 90% of its retail space was reportedly already taken up, months before its opening in 2019, according to this October 11 ST article.
BTW, our App is also super hot: it’s laden with red-hot news and lobangs (my boss forces me to include this sentence).
Shake Shack and Pokemon Center
Of its tenants, perhaps the two most hotly anticipated ones are already household names here, despite never having set up shop on our sunny little welcoming island.
The first is American burger chain Shake Shack, while the second tenant isn’t so much a tenant as it is a center; more specifically, a Pokemon center.
In what is a world’s first, the Pokemon Center Singapore will be the first such Center outside of Japan, and will offer merchandise such as games and toys unique to Jewel, apart from the standard Pokemon fare.
“The move follows the “positive outcome” from a Pokemon event held at Changi Airport in 2016, which helped to promote the brand across the region, according to The Pokemon Company corporate officer Susumu Fukunaga,” reported ST.
Pokemon Center Singapore looking to hire
Fast forward to today, it now appears that The Pokemon Company is moving full-steam ahead in preparation of the Center’s opening in March.
On 31 December 2018, a very curious yet exciting, but also slightly out of place banner appeared on Jobstreet.
This was the banner:

And yes, they are now indeed looking to hire Ash Ketchum-wannabes be part of the Pokemon family.
The two positions being hired for are:
1: Cashier (Full Time/Part Time)
Salary: SGD 1, 800 – SGD 2, 200
2: Sales Associate (Full Time/Part Time)
Salary: SGD 1, 800 – SGD 2, 200
Because it is many a persons life-goal to be able to tame a Pokemon for a job, there were 159 and 263 applicants for the cashier and sales associate roles as at time of writing.

Do note that the closing date of application for both positions is on 20 January 2019.
If you think you have what it takes to work at the Pokemon Center Singapore, you can apply for the cashier role here, and the sales associate position here.
Honestly, if it weren’t for the adorable Goody Feed resident cat here, I’ll surely be applying for one of the roles above.
Yup, that’s our highly-domesticated, adorable and gentle resident cat. Looks a little like a Pokemon, but whatever.
