How addicted to Pokemon GO are you? Enough to participate in a mass walk with 400 other people?
I know I am.
From a report by The Straits Times, a horde of Pokemon GO players was seen participating in a mass walk at East Coast Park yesterday.
What made this walk different, though, was that these participants did not have their eyes glued to the finishing line, but on their phones.
Close to 400 of them walked 8km from the park to Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage, as they kept a lookout for virtual monsters popping up on their screens.
The route passed by 53 PokeStops and 8 gyms, where these players can battle their Pokemon while sweating it out. The walk garnered around 400 participants and 25 road marshals. There were no sponsors involved.
Participants ranged from families, couples to even groups of like-minded Pokemon enthusiasts.
“It’s a chance to exercise with my family,” said Mr Kelvin Loo, 39, a lecturer, who was with his wife and eight-year-old son, a fan of the game.
Pokemon may have been just a childhood game to many, but the phenomenon of Pokemon GO has definitely brought many groups of people who seldom exercise to finally head out for a walk.
At least we are finally putting our sports shoes to use.
