When you put on that dark blue uniform in Singapore, you’ve assumed a rather heavy responsibility.

People will look to you to protect them and uphold law and order.

In fact, you’re the first resident to look for when things go wrong.

So, what happens when the very people meant to protect you take advantage of you instead?

Police Officer Caught Molesting Men at Police Facility

Well, that’s exactly what happened to two men last year.

The incident occurred at a police facility in January, according to The Straits Times.

Yick Wai Hong, a police station inspector, allegedly pulled one of the men’s head towards him, causing the victim’s forehead to touch his groin.

He did the same thing on 23 Jan last year when he pulled a second man’s head towards his groin at the same facility.

It’s unknown if the alleged victims are in the police force as the men cannot be named due to a gag order.

Could Face Two Years in Jail

As for Yick, he’s now in a whole heap of trouble.

The 46-year-old was hit with two molestation charges in a district court on Tuesday (27 April).

According to the police, Yick has also been suspended from service since 8 April this year.

“Officers of the Singapore Police Force are expected to uphold the law and maintain high standards of discipline and integrity. We deal with officers who break the law severely, including charging them in court,” the police said.

For each count of molestation, Yick can be jailed for up to two years and fined or caned.

He’s expected to return to court on 18 May.

Police Officer Fined For Molesting Colleague

About a year ago, a police officer was charged for molesting his colleague three times while on duty.

In the first incident, which occurred in 2016, the offender was on duty with the victim at a neighbourhood police centre’s counter.

When the woman passed an item to the officer, he placed his hand over it and slid his hand down to take the item from her.

On another occasion, the pair were in a police patrol car when he suddenly placed his hand on her thigh.

The victim reacted by moving her leg away from the officer, and placed a clipboard on top to cover it.

In the last incident, the offender used his right hand to push her on her buttock when she walked past him.

The officer was convicted of all three offences and fined S$9,000.

The police said it takes a zero-tolerance approach to officers who break the law, and will not hesitate to take action against them.
