Singapore’s latest trend seems to be men violating the privacy of women.
And one clever yet disgusting way that they do so is by taking upskirt photos and videos. These upskirt perverts have been on the rise for a while, and there are definitely many more that are yet to be caught for their sick acts.
Just recently, a Yale-NUS student was charged in court for taking upskirt and shower videos of women.
Today, we have another man who has come clean and admitted to secretly taking upskirt pictures on 99 different occasions.
Took Upskirt Photos On 99 Different Occasions in 6 Weeks
Shaun Ng Wei Xuan, 22, pleaded guilty to two charges of intruding on the privacy of a woman to insult her modesty in court on 3 October 2019.
He admitted to having taken upskirt photos of women at least 99 times in the span of six weeks.
He started taking these pictures back in October 2017, when he was a polytechnic student.
The people that he took pictures of were mainly women that he spotted in public and did not know personally. He would take his shots in buses, trains, shops and also on escalators.
“The accused targeted female victims who were dressed in revealing clothing such as short dresses, short skirts and tight dresses,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Man, according to CNA.
Shaun would use the “burst mode” in iPhone to get multiple photos of his victim with the simple press of one button.
When he spotted potential victims in shops, he would squat down beside them and angle his camera to take the pictures using his burst mode method. He would also use the same method while standing beside women on trains and on buses.
Caught While Taking Upskirt Photo Of 17-Year-Old
Although he got away with his sick hobby for very long, he was eventually caught by a 24-year-old man when he was busy snapping pictures of a girl in Hougang Mall.
Shaun spotted the 17-year-old girl who was looking through the gift card section at POPULAR Bookstore, and decided that she was going to be his next target.
He proceeded to do what he usually does and squatted down beside her.
The girl felt suspicious after a while, as he had been squatting next to her for “an inordinately long time”, but she did not immediately realise what he was doing.
The witness, Alexander Tay, noticed Shaun pointing his camera lens towards the victim’s skirt, and he asked the victim and his sister if they wanted to call the police.
Shaun tried to leave the store but was detained by the witness, who also asked to see his phone.
Meanwhile, the victim called the police, who detained Shaun and also seized his phone.
A total of 243 pictures of female victims were found in his phone, and he had taken these pictures on at least 99 different occasions between 17 October 2017 and 28 November 2017.
District Judge May Mesenas called for a probation report to be prepared, and Shaun is expected to be back in court on 4 November for sentencing.
For insulting the modesty of a woman, he could be jailed for up to a year, or fined, or both.
He better hope his GPA is good enough.
