Father’s Day is a special day where we treat our fathers to lavish or heartwarming hand-cooked meals, buy them thoughtful gifts, and just show our appreciation to them as a form of giving back for everything they have done for us.
Yet, fathers and also mothers give us much more than we can repay.
Even when money is tight, they would still want the best for us and provide for us as much as they can, in ways that don’t necessarily require money but just as much love.

Just like this father, who came up with a creative way to provide his son with school necessities even when he couldn’t afford it.
A Unique Bag Â
In the spirit of Father’s Day, some photos were shared in the Subtle Asian Traits Facebook group of a little boy and a blue bag that didn’t seem to be made out of any conventional material.
Take a closer look at the bag…
Is that raffia string?!
Yep – it’s a bag made out of skillfully woven, electric blue plastic ruffia string, a common and cheap household material.
The caption of the post in the group, a rough translation of the original Facebook post in Thai, said that this was a bag woven by the boy’s father out of ruffia string as he couldn’t afford a backpack for him, tacking on a belated Father’s Day wish.
Aww, how heartwarming!
It’s A Work Of Art
The boy’s father must’ve put in a great deal of effort in making this bag from scratch for his beloved son, for the detail in the weave work is sturdy and impressive.

There’s even two black straps at the back for the boy to carry the bag on his shoulders with comfort and ease that the father secured into the woven string with plastic and metal hooks!
To top it all off, the thoughtful father included a matching black buckle at the front of the bag to further secure it and prevent anything from falling out. It’s a nice touch to the minimalistic design of the bag too, if I may add.
It’s Strong, Too
If you’re wondering whether this bag will still be too fragile and not fit to carry schoolbooks in for it is made of just plastic string after all, the answer is YES. The boy’s schoolbooks fit perfectly in the bag and doesn’t seem to be wearing down the string just yet.
Well, looking at the good quality of the bag and its uniqueness, this boy’s father should probably look into starting a business where he can sell these handwoven bags and get a little more cash out of it too – a good opportunity born out of love for his son.

Since it looks aesthetic and quirky, hipsters would definitely buy them by the boxes. It may just become the next new bag trend!
