Porsche Driver Allegedly Refuses To Give Way & Points Middle Finger At Ambulance

I feel like many of us drivers have a common understanding that you ought to give way to an ambulance driving behind you, especially when the sirens are on.

I mean, if you choose not to, you can be easily fined up to $150 and awarded four demerit points.

But apparently, not everyone got the memo.

Porsche Driver Hogs Road

On 9 October, a Facebook post by Cham Ai Hui garnered a lot of attention when she posted a photo of the back of a Porsche vehicle, claiming that the driver refused to give way to the ambulance that she was on.

According to Mothership, she was reportedly sending her father to the emergency department of Singapore General Hospital (SGH) because he almost collapsed at St. Andrew Community Hospital possibly because of his terminal stage lung cancer when the incident happened.

Ms Cham said that the Porsche driver simply ignored the sirens and the headlights of the ambulance and refused to give way even though many drivers have already moved to the adjacent left lane to clear the path for the ambulance.

The Porsche driver accelerated instead.

Umm.. I’m sure you wouldn’t want the same thing to happen to you if you were in an emergency, right? Come on, people. Can’t we be more gracious on the road?

The ambulance, unwilling to continue following the Porsche driver, ended up having to overtake her vehicle by using the left lane. And this action was met with the Porsche driver’s disapproval, because she flipped the ambulance off.

Wait, so let’s get this straight. She chose not to give way to an ambulance with its sirens on and she gets annoyed when it overtakes her?

As a result of this incident, the ambulance only reached the hospital 20 minutes later, and it was said that Ms Cham’s father suffered a mild stroke and is currently in critical condition.

Netizens React

Many of the commenters on Ms Cham’s Facebook post have expressed their concern over the situation and many have given her well wishes.

Some also expressed that the ambulance should submit their dashcam footage to the police so that this driver can be punished accordingly for obstructing an emergency vehicle.

However, according to Mothership, there were a few comments doubting the reality of this situation because there was no video recorded.

In response to this, Ms Cham simply said that she was so caught up with worrying about her father that she did not even think about filming the incident down if not for the paramedics on board reminding her.

The Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao also contacted the paramedic on board but was turned down for an interview. The paramedic simply commented that nobody would joke about situations regarding life and death about their loved ones.

Whatever it is, we sincerely hope that Ms Cham’s father gets better soon and the Porsche driver gets what she deserves.
