Power Bank Overheats on Scoot Flight TR939 from Hong Kong to Singapore, No Injuries Reported

A rechargeable power bank overheated on board Scoot flight TR939 from Hong Kong to Singapore on 22 Nov 2025.​

Scoot confirmed the incident in a statement on 23 Nov 2025, issued in response to The Straits Times.

Flight Details

Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows that TR939 departed Hong Kong at 5.48pm local time on 22 Nov 2025.​

The aircraft landed at Changi Airport at 9.06pm on 22 Nov 2025.​

Airline’s Response

Scoot stated that the cabin crew responded promptly after the power bank overheated during the flight.​

The airline reported that no injuries were recorded among passengers or crew.​

Arrival in Singapore

Airport emergency services were placed on standby ahead of the aircraft’s arrival in Singapore.​

All passengers and crew disembarked normally after the aircraft landed.​

Previous Scoot Power Bank Case

In 2023, a power bank overheated and caught fire on a Scoot flight TR993 while the aircraft was taxiing for take-off at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport.​

Two passengers received minor burns to their fingers in that 2023 incident, and the flight was rescheduled after the aircraft returned to the gate.​

Policy on Power Banks

Singapore Airlines and Scoot will prohibit the in-flight use of portable power banks for charging devices from 1 Apr 2025, while still allowing passengers to carry them in cabin baggage within specified capacity limits.​

The airlines state that these rules align with the International Air Transport Association Dangerous Goods Regulations for lithium batteries carried on passenger flights.
