Samuel Lee, a candidate from the People’s Power Party (PPP) contesting Ang Mo Kio GRC, has issued a public apology for a road rage incident that took place in 2022.
Lee was previously convicted and sentenced to six weeks in jail for the incident, which occurred on 2 Feb 2022 along Lorong 4 Toa Payoh.

Apology
During a walkabout at Ang Mo Kio, residents questioned the party about Lee’s conviction. Party members defended Lee, stating that people deserved a second chance and described Lee as having been careless.

Goh Meng Seng reiterated that Lee’s actions did not involve more serious crimes and highlighted the party’s belief in rehabilitation.
On 26 Apr 2025, Lee addressed the media directly. He bowed and apologised for his actions, specifically to the delivery rider involved in the incident.
Lee expressed that he “sincerely wishes” the rider well in his life “moving forward”. He stated that he would ignore online scrutiny and mockery.
When asked by Chinese media about how he would handle the “eggs” thrown at him online, Lee replied that he would “wipe it off with a tissue”.
The PPP’s secretary-general, Goh Meng Seng, confirmed that he was aware of Lee’s past conviction and stated that Lee had not been involved in crimes such as lying in parliament, fraud, or breach of trust.
Goh emphasized that Lee’s case did not involve integrity-related offences or violent crimes.
Incident
Lee was driving a red Mercedes-Benz when he failed to give way to a food delivery rider on an e-bike. The rider, upset by the near collision, followed Lee and began shouting at him.
Instead of leaving the scene, Lee remained in his vehicle and called the police. As the altercation escalated, Lee reversed his car and then accelerated toward the rider, who managed to dodge the vehicle.

Lee repeated the action a second time, again missing the rider but knocking down a metal gate at the Victory Family Centre.
Lee appeared in court on 20 Jun 2024, unrepresented by a lawyer. He requested a short-term detention sentence. The judge, however, noted that Lee showed no remorse during the proceedings and continually blamed others for his actions.
The court rejected his request and imposed a six-week jail term, along with a six-month driving ban.
The PPP had released a statement affirming that Lee was remorseful and had taken full responsibility for his actions.
The party maintained their support for Lee, describing him as a “committed and resilient” individual who has experienced challenges faced by many Singaporeans.

Lee has been a member of the PPP since late 2023 and serves as a Central Executive Committee member handling media-related matters.
He remains eligible to run for election, as his conviction and sentence do not disqualify him from standing as a Member of Parliament under current regulations.
The incident and apology have drawn significant public and media attention, especially with the general election approaching and the PPP contesting in Ang Mo Kio GRC.
