Pregnant Woman Claims Safe Distancing Officer Pushed & Kicked Her

Safe Distancing Ambassadors (SDA) might sometimes loiter around to ensure people are following safe-distancing measurements. But, surely they aren’t supposed to take photos of children, much less kick a pregnant lady.

Unfortunately, that is what allegedly happened to a couple and their family.

Took Photos of Their Children

On 8 March, at around 6pm, Mai Surah’s husband noticed there were three people loitering and taking pictures of their children who were playing at the playground.

Her husband approached one of them and asked him why they were taking pictures of the children.

Ran Away After Being Confronted

One of the men said “nothing concerns you” and “I will delete them later”. He then shoved Mai’s husband and began running away.

Her husband quickly took his bicycle to chase after them while Mai, who is nine months pregnant, tried to keep up.

She also began taking pictures of them when she managed to keep up.

Kicked Pregnant Woman

While Mai was taking photos, one of the men pushed her down onto the road and Mai fell on her stomach.

Despite Mai being visibly pregnant, he kicked her while she was lying down and trying to get back up.

This happened around 6.16pm, when a car drove by and honked at them.

The whole incident occurred along Woodlands Ave 1 Blk 536A.

Ran Away Before Police Came

Mai’s husband stopped the man who kicked her and managed to hold him down while waiting for the police. However, the other two perpetrators ran away.

Mai later found out that the trio were SDAs after retrieving one of their SDA passes.

The police arrived after 10 minutes and a report was lodged.

Due to the assault, Mai’s face was swollen and she sustained bruises. However, she expressed thankfulness that her unborn baby was unharmed.

Appealing For Witnesses

In order to make a stronger case, Mai is appealing for witnesses and the driver of the car that drove by to give their account of what they saw.

Mai recounted the incident in a Facebook post, accompanied by pictures of the trio.

Understandably, she is perplexed as to why the trio did not identify themselves and instead ran away which made them look more suspicious.

She is also curious as to whether the trio, who are supposed SDAs, are allowed to take pictures whenever they like.

Mai hopes the authority can shed some light on her queries and that witnesses will step forward to assist in her case.
