Preschool Under Probe for Possible COVID-19 Offence After About 40 Students Spotted in Pasir Ris Park

On 18 March at around 1pm, The Straits Times reported that they spotted a group of pre-schoolers and teachers at the Pasir Ris Park.

The group approximately consisted of around 40 adults and children overall, spread across three picnic clusters with more than 8 kids per cluster.

Though, when approached by reporters, a woman from the group who declined to reveal her name, stated that they had permission to be here.

She added that taking photos or videos of the group was not permissible.

Any COVID-19 Rules Broken? We’ll See…

The director of pre-school operations for Cambridge Pre-school Singapore, Ms Fiona Lee, confirmed that the group was from her school.

She was quoted as saying, “At Cambridge Pre-school, our children’s safety and well-being are our utmost concern.”

However, according to Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA), it is possible that COVID-19 rules have been breached.

According to an ECDA spokesman, pre-school activities at external venues have been allowed to resume since the start of 2021, but safe management measures (SMM) must still be adhered to.

This means that the group mustn’t be larger than 50 overall and that the children must be split into groups of eight, with each group observing the minimum social distancing requirement needed which is 1m.

No mixing between the groups is allowed.

The spokesman continued, “We are currently looking into whether the pre-school had adhered to the SMMs.

“If lapses are found, ECDA will take action against the pre-school and also work with them to ensure that future activities adhere to the prevailing SMMs.”
