Man Who Worked as Operations Support Officer in Primary School to Be Jailed & Caned for Molesting 8YO Boy

I’m sure our school lives weren’t perfect.

Maybe we got sent to detention for being mischievous or maybe certain teachers weren’t the most pleasant.

But for one primary school student, it was even more traumatic than that.

Man Who Worked as Operations Support Officer in Primary School to Be Jailed & Caned for Molesting 8YO Boy

This is a very disturbing story, so please proceed with caution.

In 2017, Chong Choon Ying, now 48, found the then eight-year-old boy to be “cute and adorable”.

He spotted the victim at his workplace while carrying maintenance work and locking up the classrooms after school hours.

This was around January to March that year.

Eventually, Chong would approach the boy when he saw that no one was around.

He then approached the boy and asked him for a hug, opening his arms and gesturing to come closer.

Chong would wrap a hand around the boy’s shoulders and used his other hand to touch his groin.

Told His Dad Much Later

Despite the incident happening in 2017, the boy kept silent about it.

He reportedly thought no one would believe him even if he did tell someone.

Chong would also hug him on occasions between 2017 to 2018.

However, on 20 Jan 2019, the boy finally told his story to his father, who filed a police report three days later.

Chong was subsequently arrested on 29 Jan that year.

Chong’s Sentencing

The Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) initially asked for 18 months of jail and three strokes of the cane.

She noted that Chong had abused his position of power and also cited the victim’s extremely young age.

Chong’s lawyer responded by saying there was no medical report and no psychological indication that the boy suffered severe trauma.

Despite that, he did not excuse his client’s actions.

Chong eventually pled guilty on 6 April 2021 to a molestation charge and was sentenced to 14 months’ jail and one stroke of the cane.

For molesting a minor, he could have been jailed for up to five years, fined, caned, or any combination of the three.

Cases of Molesting Minors

Needless to say, sexual harassment of any form is a crime and you should definitely call the police if you know of any.

But being a sexual harasser and a paedophile certainly makes this even worse.

In another 2017 incident, a 58-year-old taxi driver molested a 13-year-old boy while driving him home.

The former had touched the boy’s crotch twice on account that he was helping him unbuckle his seatbelt.

The victim later, along with help from the school, would make a police report and have the taxi driver arrested.

He was convicted on 25 March this year for molesting a minor and will be back in court on 13 April.
