I used to think teachers and principals were always right.
As a kid, I mostly looked up to the adults in the education sector; I was often told that they knew more than I did.
Which was actually mostly true.
But I learnt quickly they were as human as I am and were prone to making mistakes, to my relief. Only they didn’t constantly confuse ‘your’ and ‘you’re’.
I also learnt that most of them don’t molest students, but recent news stories say otherwise.
Carnal Crime
Because despite being in the education sector, some people didn’t learn self-restraint.
A primary school vice-principal, 57, Â was found guilty of three counts of sexually exploiting a minor and five counts of carnal intercourse.
He has been sentenced to 10 years in jail on 16 October.
The man performed sexual acts on a male pupil when the boy was just 14 years old. Absolutely disgusting.Â
The victim is now 30 years old.
Details Of The Crime
In his submissions, Deputy Public Prosecutor James Chew described in detail the events that took place years ago.
Warning: descriptions of sexual assault below.
The victim, then Primary 5 in 2003, had to report to the man every morning as he was the vice-prefect.
They were in their school gym sometime that year when the man sexually stimulated the boy.
After becoming head prefect in 2004, the victim accepted the vice-principal’s offer for one-to-one English tuition at the man’s Woodlands flat.
For those who’ll say the victim shouldn’t have accepted, he was a kid, he might not have known better.
The man would then sexually stimulate the victim after lessons.
The victim’s mother had been sent back to their home country, China, in 2002 due to working in Singapore illegally and was living with a relative.
In an unfortunate turn of events, the relative could not be his legal guardian after PSLE and the victim moved in with the vice-principal since the man became his guardian.
The man continued to commit sexual acts on the victim until 2006 and the activities progressed to involve oral sex.
Despite resistance in 2007, DPP Chew mentioned that the victim still gave into advances due to pressure.
It was only in 2013, during a trip to Scandinavia, the victim met his future wife and moved into her home the same year, ending the physical nightmare.
The victim eventually met up with the vice-principal’s niece, where she encouraged him to make a police report.
And God bless him that he did in November that same year!
Justice
Nothing witty here, except that the accused deserves every ounce of punishment.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has stated that the man was suspended from teaching duties as of December 2015.
A spokesman from the MOE said that the organisation will not hesitate to take action against those who misuse their position for such acts.
The accused could have either been jailed for life or jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
Which, by the way, was for each charge, not all charges together.
This whole case is just frankly disgusting and I hope the victim can find some peace after all this.
As for the accused, may justice serve you well.
