SFA Recalls Primula Cheese Spread Which Contains Bacteria That Could Cause Death

But those who buy cheese in a tube are going to want to check their brand of cheese tubes.

Primula Brand Of Cheese Spread To Be Recalled

These are popular cheese tubes from the United Kingdom, imported into Singapore by Atasco Pte Ltd. The Primula brand is part of the Kavli Group.

There is possible contamination by Clostridium botulinum, said to be due to a production fault.

Primula found a product containing Clostridium botulinum during routine testing, and they recalled 10 varieties in the UK as other products could have been affected.

In Singapore, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is asking Atasco Pte Ltd to recall the products.

Here are the other varieties you should look out for:

The affected products are Primula Plain Original Cheese Spread, Primula Cheese Spread with Jalapeno, Primula Light Cheese Spread, Primula Cheese Spread with Ham, Primula Cheese Spread with Chive and Primula Cheese Spread with Prawns, all in 150g tubes.

You’ll want to take note of the best before dates, as the ones from 25 Dec 2020 to 28 Jan 2021 are affected.

If somehow you got your hands on flavours not imported by Atasco, you’ll want to know that some 100g flavours are also affected, with best before dates 30 Oct 2020 to 10 Dec 2020.

In case you’re too lazy to do anything about it and think it’ll only cause you a stomachache at worst, you’re wrong.

Clostridium botulinum produces toxins that can cause botulism, which typically begins 18 to 36 hours after consuming contaminated food.

Sometimes, they can also start in 6 hours to up to 10 days later.

Symptoms include general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble with speaking or swallowing, difficulty in breathing, weakness of muscles, abdominal distension, and constipation.

Yes, that’s a long list of possible symptoms. So don’t play play.
