Private Hitch Driver Offers Passenger $500 to $3K to Touch Her Thigh & Chest

If there’s a type of person on this earth that everyone can’t stand, it’s either those two-faced people, or those who just can’t seem to take a hint.

Put the two together?

It’s an absolute nightmare.

Throw in the fact that the person’s a pervert?

One word: run.

Woman Shares Inappropriate Proposition Offered to Her

On Tuesday (8 June), a woman shared a post on Instagram page @sgfollowsall detailing an inappropriate encounter with a private hitch driver when trying to arrange the details of a hitch ride.

In her post, she also uploaded several photos showing the messages exchanged between her and the driver, named “Clarance” in the chat message. According to her Instagram username @waddlinggrapes, the woman’s name has been identified as “Joanna”.

From the photos, the conversation started as any other normal conversation would have. The woman could be seen negotiating the price and relaying information about the pick-up and drop-off locations to the driver.

The driver then replied, “Okay la for u can cheaper”. He then continued, saying that “5$ will do! Just take it as [you] treat me starbuck haha”.

Obviously confused by this unexpected act of kindness, the woman asked if he was “sure” about this arrangement. She then accepts the offer and thanked the driver upon his confirmation.

Alas, all good things must come to an end.

The conversation then takes a creepy turn as the driver suddenly comments that the discounted offer was “For pretty [people] like [you] only”.

Though the woman merely gave an awkward reply and bushed it off, the driver continues with his comments, insisting that she was “really hot”.

As if his previous two comments weren’t enough to get his point across—yes, we get it, you’re thirsty—he once again reiterates his view that she was “too hot”.

Driver Escalates Advances

Seeing that the woman continued to ignore his comments, the driver then escalates his advances, going from low-key inappropriate to high-key inappropriate.

Just as the woman asks him for his car plate, he shoots her a text, asking “anyway can rest my hand on [your] thigh while driving?”

I’ve never in my life seen a more deceptively casual “anyway”.

From the screenshots shared, the driver can be seen continuing to press her when the woman gives him a blunt rejection to his offer, this time offering the woman S$300 in “cash before we drive off”.

Again, the woman firmly rejected him.

And again, the driver did not give up.

Instead, in an effort to persuade the woman, he increased his previous offer from S$300 to S$500, saying that it was “just on [your] thigh”. He added that he would “give [her] cash first thing [they] meet”.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s not how one should be using the word “just”.

This is when the woman clearly loses patience, directly telling the driver to “f*ck off”, adding that she was “not taking [his] ride”.

Clearly refusing to take no for an answer, the driver persisted in his offer. This time, he raised the offer from S$500 to S$1000, encouraging her to “think about it!” Upon not receiving a reply from the woman, the driver then increases his offer to S$2,000 and finally S$3,000.

The final offer of S$3,000 would “include touching [your] chest”, he told the woman. Insisting that it was “just 20 to 30 minutes”, he said once the “the ride end[ed]” he would stop.

Ahem, desperate much?

From the screenshots shared, the woman stopped replying after sending an image which clearly demonstrated how absolutely done she was with the conversation.

The conversation ended with the driver’s final message: “[You] okay? I’m sincere about it. Hope [you] can consider.”

After dealing with such a high level of denseness? No, I don’t think she’s okay.

Woman Replies to Comments in Post

In her captions on the post, the woman wrote that though the driver sounded “so normal and nice at first, but turns out he’s just another chikopek (lecher)”.

She also added that “I don’t want to think about what would happen if I actually got into his car, stay safe everybody.”

However, it looked like not everybody shared the same opinion as her. In the comments section, a few netizens commented that she should have accepted the offer, or that they would have accepted the driver’s offer had it been them.

To these comments, the woman responded that “It isn’t about the money”.

She also explained that she did not make a police report as the driver’s account “is a spam account, unfortunately”, and that “there’s no number or username”.

Very unfortunate indeed.

Private Carpooling Services Actually Banned Since Last Year

On 16 April last year, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that all private carpooling services in Singapore would be banned.

According to the advisory notice posted on LTA’s website, such private carpooling services included car-pooling matches through platforms such as Telegram, where Telegram chat groups like SG Hitch and Singapore Secret Students Free Hitch were popular.

It explained that this was due to the lack of proper records to aid in contact tracing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

From 16 May, commercial car-pooling services such as GrabHitch and Ryde were also ordered to suspend their services.

However, despite the ban on car-pooling services, a report done by The New Paper in May this year found that these bans have not stopped private car-pooling services from proliferating on Telegram chat groups.

Well, other than keeping yourself self from COVID-19, we now have another reason not to engage in these services: creepy drivers offering pervy offers.
