A string of fires broke out at Block 121A Edgedale Plains in Punggol, with four separate incidents reported over just three days.
And no, it might not be an accident.
Police have arrested a male suspect for suspected arson.
Here’s what happened.
A Person Might Have Been Starting Fires in HDB Flats in Punggol
One of the fires occurred at 2:30 AM on 6 November along the 16th-floor corridor.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed responding to the 6 November incident at 2:40 AM. They checked on one person at the scene who declined hospital treatment.
A resident, who chose to stay anonymous, told Shin Min Daily News that he spotted the flames after smelling smoke while resting in his living room. He then found items along the corridor ablaze.
Neighbours jumped into action quickly. The resident, along with his next-door neighbor and another resident from the 15th floor, used hosereels to put out the flames before they could spread further.
Other fires occurred in both the 15th and 16th floors between 3 November to 6 November, whereby corridor items and rubbish chutes were set on fire.
One particular incident on 5 November at 2:30 PM left the rubbish chute with blackened walls and ceiling.
On 7 November, residents spotted police officers bringing a handcuffed suspect back to the scene. The man was seen pointing out fire locations to investigating officers.
Police later informed residents that the case had been resolved and there was no cause for further concern.
No fire alarms were triggered during these incidents, though quick action from residents prevented any major damage or injuries.
