When a murder takes place with no seeming motive, the offenders are often known to each other.

And that’s exactly what happened in this shocking case.

Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing 46YO Man to Death in Punggol

At around 3pm yesterday (13 July), the police were alerted to a stabbing case at a residential unit at Sumang Walk in Punggol.

When officers arrived at Blk 326A Sumang Walk, they found a man with multiple wounds lying motionless outside the unit.

The 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering the victim. Investigations revealed that both men knew each other.

According to CNA, access to the sixth floor of the block had been cordoned off by police, including staircases from the fifth floor.

Some 10 police officers were seen in and around the unit, with other officers stationed at the lift landing.

As a result, food delivery riders were denied access to the units in that section of the block. Police officers had to take the food to the customers instead.

Speaking to CNA, a resident from the second floor said she heard loud banging and shouting from the unit earlier in the afternoon.

She later saw a man being brought down in handcuffs by officers at around 5pm.

The 43-year-old suspect will be charged in court tomorrow (16 July) with murder. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Punggol Field Murder

Last year, another murder in Punggol shocked residents across the country.

On 10 May 2020, a man was stabbed near a bus stop in Punggol Field Road at around 11.10pm while out on a jog.

The 38-year-old reportedly went out for a jog as he felt cooped up at home during the circuit breaker.

He had left his house at around 10pm, and was found injured at a bus stop along Punggol Fields at about 11pm.

The man reportedly worked in a sportswear company, and lived with his wife and a dog. He lived just two streets across from where he was found.

The murder sparked a manhunt for the suspect, where a request for TraceTogether data was even made.

6 days later, the police arrested a suspect for the murder, 20-year-old Surajsrikan Diwakar Mani Tripathi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was not known to the victim and is believed to have acted alone.
