Search Underway for 35-Year-Old Man Missing Near Punggol Point Jetty

A 35-year-old man has been reported missing near Punggol Jetty since 6 August 2023, sparking an urgent search and rescue operation in the area. The Singapore Police Force (SPF), Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) have joined forces to conduct a thorough search for the missing individual.

The situation came to light when a reader informed Lianhe Zaobao that he witnessed a number of police and SCDF personnel carrying out a rescue operation. This occurred as he was passing by Northshore Plaza in Punggol on Sunday (6 August) around 4 pm.

According to the witness, the authorities were quick to dispatch boats to carry out the rescue operation at sea. The scene was filled with many fire trucks and ambulances, and a crowd of people stopped to watch the unfolding event.

The witness also noted a long-haired woman in a white top and a man in a black long-sleeved top conversing with several police officers, though it remains uncertain whether these two individuals are connected to the incident.

Reports suggest that the missing person is believed to have jumped into the sea while engaging in activities near the coast. Tragically, he was swept away by a large wave and disappeared from sight.

The SPF has confirmed that they received a report at 3:45 pm on Sunday regarding the 35-year-old man who had gone missing in the Punggol Wharf area.

Personnel from the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority, the Police Force, and the Civil Defense Force are now working in collaboration to ensure a comprehensive and ongoing rescue operation.
