While the phrase “not all parking spots in car parks were created equally” might not be something that everyone hears daily, it’s definitely something that some drivers can relate to.
And it’s something that these two drivers who argued over a parking lot in a carpark at Queen Street on Sunday (30 April) could relate to for sure.
On Sunday (30 April), a Facebook user named Lucifier Samael Morningstar uploaded a post to the Complaint Singapore Facebook group to detail his experience of being “scolded” by a van driver for allegedly “stealing” the latter’s parking space.
In his post, he explained that he had been waiting at the car park, which is next to the 3838 Coffeeshop and opposite Bugis+, for more than 15 minutes to secure a parking spot.
When he finally got one, he was preparing to park his car in it when a van “entered the carpark immediately attempted to steal the parking lot”.
“[The van driver] insisted on reversing into my car [and horned] loudly,” Lucifier added.
According to Lucifier, the man got out of his van before going to Lucifier’s car and opening the car door.
“[He] started shouting… profanities at me[,] and then he slammed my car door,” Lucifier recounted.
Apart from that, the van driver allegedly continued to shout and scream at Lucifier to “[provoke him] further”.
Based on Lucifier’s account, other drivers in the area “supported” him and agreed that the van driver should not be the one parking his vehicle in that parking lot.
Police Report Was Made, But Van Driver Left Before Police Arrived
When speaking to Shin Min Daily News, Lucifier recalled that the incident occurred around 2 pm on Sunday (30 April).
He explained that he wanted to park his car at the car park as he had intended to visit the nearby Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple with his friends.
After 15 minutes of waiting, he finally had a parking lot when another car left, prompting him to park his car.
However, the van driver suddenly got out of his vehicle and started yelling at Lucifier loudly.
Apparently, the van driver had even accused Lucifier of snatching his parking lot, a claim that Lucifier said was unreasonable.
Lucifier also pointed out that he had been waiting for a parking lot for 15 minutes and that the parking lot definitely did not “belong” to the van driver.
He added that the van driver forced him to open his car door, started hurling vulgarities at him and slammed his car door violently after ten minutes of shouting.
Apart from that, Lucifier claimed that another lady who was also waiting for a parking lot went forth and called the van driver out for his unreasonable actions.
Lucifier also called the police, but the van driver left before the police officers arrived.

Parking Lots in this Car Park are “Extremely Popular”
When reporters from Shin Min visited the area, they noticed that the parking lots in the car park were “extremely popular”.
In fact, around five drivers were waiting for parking lots when Shin Min reporters were there.
A stallholder from the nearby coffee shop also revealed that drivers of different cars often get into arguments over the parking lots, and the vehicles occasionally bump into each other as well.
According to the stallholder, these arguments happen at least once or twice each week.
Sometimes, police officers are even called to the scene to help mediate the issue between the different parties.
