Step aside Rainbow Bagels. This new trend is set to hit the Singapore food scene by storm.
Rainbow Cheese Toasties, or Unicorn Toasties, as they like to call it, first made its mark in Hong Kong, and has now landed on our little red dot to set the latest trend. These aesthetically-pleasing cheese toasties served at Epicurious Cafe are prepared with a blend of mozzarella and parmesan cheese to achieve the stretchy textures – also what we look for when we capture THE Instagram-worthy photo.
Not only are these Rainbow Cheese Toasties gorgeous, they are also flavored with truffle oil for an enhanced oomph. For those who are afraid that you are going to consume only food coloring, there’s nothing to fret about. The rainbow colors from the melted cheese are achieved using natural food ingredients such as beetroot (red), carrot (orange), spinach (green), potato and butterfly peas (blue) and red cabbage (violet) – with minimal food coloring. Taste wise, we loved how buttery and to crisp the toasts were, but our only gripe was that since these different flavors have been infused together, it was slightly harder to distinguish them from the overpowering scent of truffle oil and spinach.
These Rainbow Cheese Toasties are priced at S$9 (for the toast only) and S$16 (toast with beetroot salad and fries). Is this a fab or fad? Well, try it for yourselves and don’t hesitate to let us know your views on it!
