Teen Who Did a Backflip in a Rhino Enclosure Faces 4 More Charges; Expected to Plead Guilty Next Month

Ralph Wee, more commonly known as the Teen Who Did a Backflip in a Rhino Enclosure, doesn’t seem to be a fan of the law.

While some of his misdeeds are mere brushes with the law, others involve flinging the law violently against the wall.

His failure to wake up for a court hearing earlier this month should have been the last of his mistakes, but it seems that his already-lengthy list of charges just got longer.

Teen Who Did a Backflip in a Rhino Enclosure Faces 4 More Charges

Wee was handed four more charges today (12 Nov), for committing mischief by cutting a GPS ankle tag and possessing electronic cigarette pods and an e-vaporiser.

On 26 Oct, the 19-year-old allegedly cut a S$100 electronic tag at about 12.10am at 16 Leedon Road. He was caught at the same address with an e-cigarette pod two days later.

Then, on 14 Sep, an e-vaporiser and six e-cigarette pods were allegedly found in his possession while he was at a ward in the Institute of Mental Health.

In addition to these charges, Wee is likely to face four drug-related charges of failing to report for his urine test.

Had “Difficulty Waking Up” For Court

On 5 Nov this year, Wee was supposed to turn up to court, but his lawyers said he had “difficulty waking up” as has happened in the past, and that his parents couldn’t wake him up either.

“My dog ate my court order” would have been better.

As a result, an arrest warrant was issued and Wee was remanded the next day.

In addition, Wee faces charges for:

  • trespassing into the white rhino enclosure
  • killing a frog by causing unnecessary pain and suffering
  • vandalising a bus-stop information panel along Sixth Avenue near the Bukit Timah Area last year by hitting it, causing damage that amounted to S$900
  • damaging the side mirrors of two luxury cars – a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz – which amounted to about $1,669 and around S$2,793 in damage respectively
  • consuming cannabis while on bail

He was also out on bail when he committed his most recent offences, including cutting his electronic tag.

Next month, when Wee returns to court, he is expected to plead guilty.

For criminal trespass, Wee can be jailed for up to three months and fined up to $1,500.

Those convicted of vandalism face up to three years imprisonment and a fine of up to $2,000, as well as between three and eight strokes of the cane.

If guilty of cannabis consumption, Wee could be jailed for up to 10 years and fined up to $20,000.
