As kids, we have all watched the Power Rangers before on television. But have you ever thought that there were similar heroes on Sentosa Island called The Sentosa Rangers?

I didn’t and I doubt most of us did.

Just like the mighty Power Rangers whom every kid wanted to emulate back then, the Sentosa Rangers also endeavor to keep the island free of incidents and crisis every single minute of every day, from dawn until dusk and vice versa.

According to Noor Zabidah Binte Buang, Supervisor of the Rangers, the work they do is “challenging, fun and unexpected, as you’ll never know what can happen each day”.

Her idea of a security job being a “clock in, clock out” job was quickly erased when she realised that they had to be involved in a multitude of matters across the island to ensure a safe and secure environment for all the guests.

It didn’t matter if operations for most of Sentosa’s attractions cease by night fall as their jobs are not done yet. Even at night, The Sentosa Rangers are on the prowl, looking out for illegal activities such as fishing, illegal entry by sea, break-ins and other sorts of emergencies. You will also notice that they are always around come rain or shine.

And if you remember, the Power Rangers rode in several different kinds of transportation and had all sorts of technologically interesting trinkets they used to communicate amongst themselves.

Well, it’s the same for these Sentosa Rangers. Depending on the kind of terrain they need to cross, their modes of transport can range from a 4WD truck, buggy, motorcycle, bicycle to the Segway.

They also leverage on a wide range of technology and systems available at the Joint Command Centre (JCC) to enhance the ground operations on the island. How much more similar can they get?

The Sentosa Rangers are also quick to react to emergency situations. Whenever an emergency crops up, they are there and getting down to the issue in a jiffy.

This, according to Zabidah, is what they are trained to do: to make sure all the guests on the island feel at ease and goes about their activities with a peace of mind.

So the next time you are on Sentosa for a fun day out with your friends or family, keep a look out for these unsung heroes of the island. If you do see them, why not approach them for a photo?

Perhaps give them a pat on the back for their hard work and a job well done in keeping the island safe.

It would be nice to have a photo keepsake of our very own Power Rangers right?
