Do you know Drake?

The popular rapper is famous for spitting bars and fire.

Hey, did you also know that he referenced Singapore in one of his latest songs?

Exciting news, we’re sure.

But the catch is that what he said about Singapore isn’t the most flattering.

He used an expletive and criticised our local artistes for being broke.

Oh dear, what do we make of this?

Here’s more about Drake and his new song references.

Drake Referenced Singapore in New Song “Drew A Picasso”

If you are a fan of Drake then you might be super thrilled that the Canadian rapper referenced Singapore in his new song.

Like wow, your idol acknowledges your presence!

But not to splash cold water onto your happy thoughts but he doesn’t seem to think very highly of Singapore.

In Drake’s new song “Drew A Picasso”, Drake mentions Singapore in this line: “Artists hittin’ on you, broke as f***, I swear them n***** probably live in Singapore.”

He Said Singapore Artists Are “Broke”

Yup, you read that right.

Drake thinks that Singapore artists are “broke”.

Of course, many celebrities and music performers take some liberty when writing their lyrics.

The song lyrics are usually open to interpretation and may not be what they literally say.

For this song in Drake’s For All The Dogs album, he could be talking about artists such as painters and comic artists not earning enough.

He could also be referencing local performers and musicians not earning as much as other professions.

Honestly, both of those interpretations sound like something an Asian parent would say.

Did Drake get possessed by a tiger mum when he wrote those lyrics?

People Have Mixed Reactions to the Song

Whatever Drake’s motivations were in writing those lyrics, the fact remains that they are part of his eight studio album so they are here to stay.

And of course, the internet is abuzz discussing Drake’s controversial lyrics.

For one, it is well-known that Singapore is a first-world country and by no means “poor”.

One netizen took to the micro blogging social media site X (formerly known as Twitter) to defend our nation’s riches.

The netizen, going by the moniker @imrntv, said that Singapore is ranked fifth in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP).

In comparison, Canada is ranked 18th.

Ha, we win.

Maybe someone should show Drake how much reserves and gold bars Singapore has.

Others took this jab more lightheartedly, concurring with Drake that they were “broke” so his lyrics check out.

If we weren’t so broke, maybe we won’t need to resort to girl math to justify our expenses.
