The Carrie-Ian saga seemed to have come to a close after Ian Fang made peace with Carrie’s boyfriend.
The aftermath of it?
Boris Lim, Carrie’s boyfriend, gained over 10K new Instagram followers in a week or so.
Other than that, there seems to be more evidence that point to an alleged relationship between Ian Fang and Rebecca Lim, as a leaked WhatsApp chat showed a certain “Becks” who’s allegedly Ian’s partner.
And before yesterday, Rebecca, who’s also an ambassador for Huawei, has stayed silent. Maybe she’s crying over Huawei’s saga. Who knows.
But she’s since posted her first unsponsored post on Instagram, and it’s as subtle as my boss’ stubble.
Now, before there, let’s set the facts right first.
Rebecca Lim and Ian Fang Were Never Official
If you’re like my colleague, you’d have thought that they were already together. Heck, one of us even thought that they were married!
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Their relationship has always been based on mere rumours.
In fact, Rebecca Lim isn’t rumoured to be romantically linked with just Ian Fang; she’s also rumoured to be with Desmond Tan.
So, what fueled the rumours?
In Star Awards 2017, when Ian won an award, he thanked Rebecca for being a “good friend”. And of course, they’re such good pals, people started to ship them.
Celebrities Started to “Side” Rebecca After the Scandal
Even without any confirmation, at least two celebrities have come out to post images of Rebecca Lim after the leaked DMs between Carrie and Ian.
Firstly, we have our Ah Jie Zoe Tay:
Then we’ve celebrity David Gan, whose Instagram account was hacked just recently but he seemed to have got it back:
According to Boris Lim, Ian’s relationship with someone is an open secret in the industry, so that could explain their sudden IG posts.
Rebecca’s First Post Since the Saga
Rebecca has always been very active on Instagram: the 32-year-old, who turns 33 this September, usually posts an image every one or two days. On some occasions, it would be three or four days between each post.
Many of the posts are sponsored or are part of her ambassadorship with certain brands; for example, this one is with Huawei (yes, I specifically chose Huawei, you got problem?):
So, it’s rather strange for her not to post anything for ten days after the Carrie-Ian saga happened.
Her last post, a sponsored post about a bag or a dress (come on, I’m not her target audience), was on 14 May 2019, which was the exact day that the scandal surfaced.
And she didn’t post anything since then…until yesterday.
It’s not a sponsored post but just this.
Lest you can’t read, the captions read: “More love, less hate. Wishing you sunshine always.”
Has she forgiven Boris Ian?
What’s even more interesting is that soon after, in less than 24 hours, she posted a sponsored post.
Now, any sane online marketer would know that it’s better to post something with intervals in-between, and she’s had ten days to do so. But she posted both her organic post and sponsored post in a day.
One can only speculate: has she just thought through it?
Then again, maybe we overthink. But fact of the matter is we’ve got nothing to write that’s why we overthink.
