Fireworks usually signal good intentions, good vibes and generally a cause for celebration.
But in hindsight, are they really always?
Residents Called the Police After Someone Set Off ‘Illegal’ Fireworks in Redhill
On 28 August 2021, a fireworks display was reportedly launched from the top floor of a multi-storey carpark.

It was so abrupt that residents were allegedly left in a state of shock, with some wondering whether it was actually set off in an illegal manner.
The incident is said to have occurred at Redhill, within the vicinity of Jalan Rumah Tinggi.
At around 12:00 p.m. on 28 August, five to six individuals were allegedly seen on the top floor of section 37A multi-storey car park.
They appeared to be setting up equipment for activities, and even established a green tent.
A witness expressed that they stayed a good half an hour before leaving.
Things then stayed quiet until around 8:30 p.m. in the evening, when a resident reportedly heard a loud “bang” noise from outside.
She then witnessed a fireworks display that allegedly lasted nearly six minutes.
No Notice Beforehand
Apparently, no notice was given beforehand.

As such, this led to fears of an explosion, instead of the actual fireworks.
Other residents have also concurred, stating that they were shocked by the sudden display.
They have also wondered whether it was legal in nature.
Legal
The fireworks display was reportedly legal.
Touted to be a National Day celebration organised by the relevant authorities, the display was held after the successful application of a permit.

It should be noted that after the fireworks display concluded, a group of people allegedly stayed behind to clean up the scene, before leaving five minutes later.
When a reporter visited afterwards, however, fragments of the fireworks could still be seen in the parking lot.
Not The First Time
Though the aforementioned incident appears to be legal in nature, the same can’t be said about prior instances.
Back in 2019, fireworks could be seen going off in Jurong West on Deepavali.
And even before that, illegal fireworks reportedly went off in Yishun.

Apparently, the man responsible for the act was given a 3-week jail sentence, and made to pay a S$5,000 fine for setting off the fireworks.
