Yeah, I know. Redmart’s like Dumbledore;

You honestly thought it’s gonna last forever.

But here’s the thing: unlike Dumbledore, Redmart differs in one single aspect:

It’s not actually gonna disappear forever.

As it is, news reports have emerged that following the app’s closure, Redmart’s services will not be scrapped…

But shifted to a new location instead.

Lazada’s Call

Lest you’re unaware, Lazada, an e-commerce company, had actually acquired Redmart back in November 2016 but chose to keep it as a standalone entity.

Not sure what’s Lazada? Here’s a Lazada.

Looks delicious, isn’t it?

Anyways.

Yet like everything else, it seems that time’s up for singular perspectives. On 31 Jan 2019, Lazada announced that it will begin venturing into the online supermarket business in Southeast Asia (starting with Singapore). And its first step?

Integrating Redmart into its platform.

Starting from 15 March this year, Redmart will migrate to the e-commerce platform, and shoppers will be able to purchase groceries and fresh produce from a single location: Lazada’s site or app.

Meanwhile, orders on the new RedMart on Lazada will continue to be fulfilled by the online grocer in customers’ opted delivery times (between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.). Orders with other Lazada sellers will, however, be fulfilled separately.

Feature-wise, purchase history and two-hour delivery windows will continue to be available, and minimum order to procure free delivery will still be there. Thus far, members of membership programme LiveUp currently have to hit S$40 to qualify for free delivery, while non-members have to hit S$100. One should also take note that other Lazada products will not contribute to the required amount at checkout.

As for the app itself, existing RedMart customers can continue browsing the existing app and website until 11:59 p.m. on 14 March, when migration will officially ensue. To continue using the service, customers will have to download the Lazada app.

Well, considering how vast and convenient the Lazada app is, we would say that sacrificing that Redmart App for Lazada is not so much of a sacrifice…

As it is a bonus.
