Many years ago, when you paid $25 to that guy on the street who offered you a Rolex watch which actually said “Relax”, you knew what you were getting into.
It was clearly a fake, but it looked cool and was cheap.
However, if you pay good money for what is supposed to be a luxury product, you’re expecting it, at the very least, to be luxurious.
But that’s not what happened to some customers of Reebonz.
Number of Complaints Against Luxury Marketplace Reebonz Increases
More and more of Reebonz’s customers are getting frustrated with the luxury marketplace.
According to figures from the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), the number of complaints against Reebonz has been rising rapidly in the last three years.
In 2019, three complaints were received. This number shot up to 12 in 2020. 18 complaints have been received so far this year, and we’re only in August.
Complaints were received from both sellers and buyers.
Buyers’ complaints centered around the quality of the products purchased from the platform, as they were either of poor quality or were allegedly counterfeit.
Sellers have also complained that they have not received payment for the products they supplied to Reebonz.
Reebonz has a “White Glove” service which allows people to sell their pre-owned bags through the platform.
However, many sellers complained that they have not received payment even after several months of waiting, despite the agreed payout period being 20 business days.
In total, 14 of the complaints against Reebonz in the last three years came from sellers.
The White Glove service, which may offer sellers up to “95% payout of the final net selling price” after the bags are sold, has been “temporarily put on pause”.
Bad Reviews, Bad Reviews Everywhere
There’s a reason why reviews on e-commerce sites exist; to lend credibility to the sellers and the quality of their products.
If you were to check reviews of Reebonz, well, you’d probably shop elsewhere.
One reviewer said she sold a Louis Vuitton bag for over $1,000 back in Nov 2020 as well as a Hermes and Dior bag for more than $10,000 three months ago, but has not received any payment yet.
There were similar complaints from other sellers, as well as a few from buyers, with one calling Reebonz a “scam”.
One reviewer warned other sellers to “deal at your own risk”.
Interestingly, the company has limited who can comment on some of their Facebook posts, presumably after receiving complaints there.
Company’s Response
Responding to CNA on a WhatsApp business account, Reebonz said “We just need time we, are not running out. All will be paid … we are not the only one affected by COVID.”
The company added that payments are ongoing, and that it had paid “two batches last week”.
