Do you remember the online excitement concerning the renaming of Compass Point, which had netizens up in arms when the winner of the “name-change” competition won with an incredibly bland and boring submission?
Well, this is yet another piece of update in a long string (okay, not that long) of name changes the currently renovating mall in Sengkang has undergone.
Just a recap on what happened last year
On 26 October 2015, Compass Point was closed for renovations, and will be opening for business again this year. With a new look and design, this shopping mall is determined to start on a fresh piece of paper, and they decide to search for a new name which will suit the new mall.
“Naming” competition for the public
Compass Point opened a competition to the public for name submissions, with a cash prize of $1,000 for the winner whose suggestion will be used as the name of the mall.
Eight entries were selected and they were as follow: Sengkang Central Mall, Sengkang Mall, One Sengkang, SengKang Square, One Sengkang square, Sengkang One, #1 Sengkang Square and 1SM.
Netizens were disappointed at the entries, and one has even pointed out that “Compass Point” is still the best.
1 Sengkang Mall, winner of the competition
When the winning entry was announced, the internet responded. This, some said, can be easily come up with by a 3-year-old, and it was commented (again) that Compass Point wins over the rest when it comes to creativity, uniqueness and just about everything else.
Some wondered why the management came up with the naming competition in the first place if this was the end result. Not that we blame them, mind you.
A name change. Again.
Well, after months of deliberation and feedback from customers, the mall is undergoing a name change again. It has decided to change its new name from “1 Sengkang Mall” to “Compass One”.
What do you think of the new name? We think anything is better than 1 Sengkang Mall, but that could just be our jealousy talking because we just can’t stand seeing someone walk away with $1000 cash prize.
I guess for those readers who live in Sengkang and its vicinity, it doesn’t really matter much whether the mall is called 1 Sengkang Mall or Compass One.
What is important to you is that once renovation works are complete, you can look forward to a mall near your home where you can eat, shop and carry out your daily activities fuss-free and conveniently.
