Last year, the story of Uncle David, a Malaysian man selling Pokemon plushies went viral. Someone had reportedly ordered 250 soft toys from him, and never came to collect. After the story went viral, droves of people came by and bought the toys off him.
Now that the Pokemon Go hype has died down, Uncle David’s business hasn’t been doing so well.
Here he is seen napping, with no customers in sight (hello? Photographer? Just take picture never help buy ah?).
His plushies are known to be of great quality, and very affordable, selling at RM10 each only.
At the height of his popularity, his business had even been reported by the BBC. It is certainly heartbreaking to see his current state, now that Pokemon seems to have faded from public attention like other fads.
Fortunately, he seems to have caught the attention of some netizens on Facebook, as many in Malaysia have expressed their sympathy and desire to help.
Some even asked their friends who lived close by to help them purchase some of the toys.
Seriously, the plushies are super cute.
A friendly reminder here that our Uncle David is nearly 70 years old, and has Leukemia to boot. His soft toys are also really cheap and well-made, so consider this a PSA to go get some cute plushies, and help a man in need at the same time.
He sells his wares outside HSBC bank, Damansara Uptown, which is located within Petaling Jaya, beside Kuala Lumpur.
